Pearce is Professor of Tourism Management at Victoria University of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand. He received his MA in geography from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch and completed a doctorat de troisième cycle at the Université d'Aix-Marseille II. Douglas has extensive tourism research experience in New Zealand, Europe, the South Pacific and Southeast Asia. He has published widely on diverse aspects of tourism, including the development and impact of tourism, the geography of tourism, distribution channels, tourism planning, tourism organizations and urban tourism. He is the author of Tourist Development, Tourism Today: a geographical analysis and Tourist Organizations and co-editor of Tourism Research: critiques and challengs; Change in Tourism: people, places, processes; Contemporary Issues in Tourism Development and Tourism Research: a 20-20 vision. His books have been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Japanese. Douglas is a Founding Fellow and former vice-president of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism.
